Christie’s After Dark: A Private Tour of Jonathan Burden’s LIC Studio
Join Fine Objects Society and Christie's for an exclusive auction preview of Crafted and Collected: The Jonathan Burden Sale. In a modern twist on the traditional country house sale model, Christie's is offering the contents of Jonathan Burden's LIC studio in an online-only auction from 24 September–8 October, with all property remaining on-site.
Since the 1980s, Jonathan Burden has been a fixture in New York's furniture and decorative arts scene. In 2016, he moved his gallery and restoration workshop from SoHo to a converted industrial warehouse in Long Island City, where his eclectic collection of antique and contemporary decorative arts now fills the space alongside his restoration workshop.
Join us for a private tour of the sale in situ and the restoration workshop led by Christie's Specialist Allison Cox and Jonathan Burden himself. With nearly everything offered without reserve and starting bids of just $100, this presents a rare opportunity for collectors at every level.

Annual Members Retreat
Join Fine Objects Society for an unforgettable, multi-day Retreat in the picturesque Hudson Valley. This immersive experience will draw together a community of collectors, curators, designers, and dealers to explore the evolving field of antiques in a rapidly changing world. Through intimate conversations, dynamic keynote presentations, and excursions highlighting direct engagement with objects, participants will hone connoisseurship while expanding their passion for historic things.
Home base for the Retreat will be Midwood, a ten bedroom historic home nestled among 75 acres of private land with one of the most iconic views of the Hudson River. The Midwood property was part of the original land grant given to Robert Livingston the Elder by King George I of Great Britain in 1686, and it remained in the Livingston family until the 1980s. Since then, Midwood has functioned as both a family home and a gathering place for notable events, bringing together luminaries from far and wide. The property is part of the Federal Hudson River Historic District, and Midwood’s land, main house and carriage barn are about as historic as a property can be in the Hudson Valley.
Registration $450 for members, $535 for non-members (includes one year FOS membership)

Philadelphia’s finest artisans worked on the house, under the leadership of master builder Thomas Nevell, who was an apprentice of Edmund Woolley, the architect of Independence Hall. The interior boasts remarkable carved ornament executed by Philadelphia’s cadre of London émigré carvers. Organized exclusively for Fine Objects Society, Alexandra Kirtley, the Montgomery-Garvan Curator of American Decorative Arts at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, will lead us on a tour of this stately house.
