The FOS Index: Expert Insight on Antique Objects

For collectors, owners, interior designers, estate managers… and the curious: do you have an object you can’t quite identify, or don’t quite know what to do with?

The Fine Objects Society Index connects FOS members with experts who can help make sense of the (possibly storied) objects in their lives.

Perhaps you inherited a piece you know is old, but have no idea where it came from. Or found something intriguing at an antiques show. Or own a beautiful object but have never been quite sure how to care for it—or whether the story you were told about it is true.

How this works

  1. Take a few good photos of your object from all angles, making sure to capture any hallmarks.

  2. Put together those images along with any information you have on it (even stories you believe to be purely apocryphal). The more information we have, the better.

  3. Email to index@fineobjectssociety.org. We’ll connect you with the FOS expert best suited to your question and your object.

  4. What you pay: nothing. The Index is a benefit of Fine Objects Society membership—and one more way to bring the knowledge, curiosity, and pleasures of collecting into everyday life.
